Oath
The presidential election of 2016 ushered forth an era of fake news, alternative facts, and non-truths. In today's political climate, we no longer expect public institutions – the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court, the press – to uphold the truth with the same credibility they once did.
For this project, I took the sworn oath – a familiar saying in government and law – and re-contextualized it in front of Philadelphia's City Hall, a site symbolic of institutional power and American government. The project encourages the audience to critically evaluate the state of the truth today.
